What is Secure Erasing?

When you delete a file from Windows, Windows just mark the file as deleted in file allocation table, but the data of the file is still in your hard disk, there are many tools available which can let others easily recover your sensitive files. CuperUtilities Privacy Eraser can overwrite file with character zeros, ones and random numbers, and you can set the number of times to use the erasing methods on the file. Please Note: The US Department of Defense recommends 3 overwrites, NSA recommends 7 overwrites. The more times you set to overwrites the file, the longer the erasing cycle will take. Usually, the default 1 times (3 passes) is enough.

What is index.dat?

This file used for folders: Temporary Internet Files, History, Cookies and more... It locked by system and can not be deleted. It contain information about files which cached. It do not contain files, but list of locations for them.

Why the index.dat files still exist after I erase them?

The index.dat files are always LOCKED during a Windows session and can not be deleted. CuperUtilities Privacy Eraser erases these files during a reboot before they become locked. After Windows has restarted, new files are automatically created with the same name but they contain no data.

Why the some browser history still there after erasing?

It is strongly recommended that you shutdown all the programs that you want to erase, because some tracks can not be erased when these programs are running. For MSN, AOL and Netscape/Mozilla/Firefox, even you close all the windows of them, maybe their icons still on the system tray (lower right of the screen). Please check the system tray (lower right of your screen) to see if there is an icon of them, if you can find, you need to right click on it and close it before cleaning.

Why the Mediaplayer playlist are still there after I choose to erase them?

This maybe you keep Mediaplayer running when you erasing it, because Mediaplayer will save the playlist again when it shutdowns.

Important Note: It is strongly recommended that you shutdown all the programs that you want to erase, because some tracks can not be erased when these program are running.

Can CuperUtilities Privacy Eraser clean my files automatically when I start my computer?

Simply configure the scheduling options on the Options->Schedule Tab in CuperUtilities Privacy Eraser.

How can I install CuperUtilities Privacy Eraser?

If you download CuperUtilities Privacy Eraser self-extracting setup file from Internet, just double click the setup file in Windows explorer and the setup will start.

How can I uninstall CuperUtilities Privacy Eraser?

There are two ways to uninstall CuperUtilities Privacy Eraser:

1. Click Start -> Programs -> CuperUtilities Privacy Eraser -> Uninstall.
2. Click Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs->CuperUtilities Privacy Eraser.
